A colourful retelling of a Welsh folk tale about the attempt of the people of Risca to hinder the cuckoo's autumnal migration, and the unchangeable cycle of the seasons, for 3-7 year old children. Welsh version Rhys a Chwcw Rhisga also available.
Gwales Review
This is a delightful Welsh folk tale about the inevitable progression of the seasons in the cycle of the natural world. Rhys, a lively and endearing young lad, quickly learns the lesson of accepting the different functions of the changing weather patterns as well as appreciating the unique beauty of each season. The adults of Risca are persuaded to recapture their vision of the world through the eyes of a child.
The illustrations are vibrant in colour and texture, enhancing the vivid and rhythmic vocabulary so the reader cannot wait to turn to the next picture.
What a lovely way to appreciate the words of Ecclesiastes 3: ‘To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under the heaven . . .’
Hilary Cooper
